February Update
about 8 years ago – Tue, Feb 02, 2016 at 06:54:56 PM

Hello Woodlings,

Hope everyone is enjoying the new year! Sorry we missed you last month. The holiday crunch was very heavy this year, but never fear, Deadwood is still here!

Deadwood Updates:

We've been working on tons of stuff, including more weapons, defenses and enemies. Here's a sneak peek at what we've been up to...

 Some new weapons...

The different damage states for the tall barricade (great against Splinters)

This is really early but Splinter is officially in the game ...

Splinter on the prowl for sap!

Eustis Video Shoot

We love our city. They shower us with so much love. They came in last week to shoot a video about startup businesses in Eustis.  Here's Keith, Adam and Jalil interviewing while the rest of the team photo bombs them.

Speaking of local press... we were also in the Orlando Sentinel again! Props to our amazing programmers, Keith and Wes for making us sound smart! If you're interested in reading a little bit about AI, definitely check it out.

Global Game Jam

Some of the Steamroller Studio team spent this past weekend participating in the Global Game Jam. So proud of them for spending 72 hours straight creating a game. Great job guys. (Keep an eye out for it in the future.)

Dragon of Legends: An Online Cross-Platform aRPG

"Uncover countless mysteries of the past as you battle across platforms in this 2D online aRPG inspired by Celtic and Norse mythology."

Woo another great Indie Game to support. They have 18 more days to go and need a little love. Take a look at their Kickstarter. There's a lot of great footage of the game, and awesome content.

Till next month...

Holiday Update!
over 8 years ago – Fri, Dec 11, 2015 at 10:58:44 PM

Hello Woodlings!

Tis the season to be with the force! Hope everyone is having a lovely time for the holidays... or are at least super excited to see the new Star Wars movie!!! We know we are!

The Steamroller Team has been working hard on Deadwood: The Forgotten Curse for the holidays! In this update we want to show you all a sneak peek of what we've been working on!

Deadwood Updates:

Check out the first iteration of the Nibbler Radial Menu. This is where you will select one of Nibbler's 8 skills to help you throughout your journey in Knottington.

Steamroller is also in the middle of making the world look like a more complete place. Buildings are beginning to look more like places I wouldn't mind living in. ;) Check them out below!

Deadwood officially has all the story triggers laid out in the WORLD!!!

So all the red boxes with text you see in the image above are physical story triggers. They'll be invisible when you play the actual game of course, but these will help the engine recognize what parts of the story you've completed and it'll hold on to that information so that you can move forward with the story. The portion you see here is just the small section you start the game in.

Renaming the TopHopper

Alright, so this creature's name is up for debate! We've been loving the names that the community has come up with so far and so we'd like to keep this good thing going. You can submit you idea for a name on our Discuss page. Have Fun!

Here's some information about the TopHopper:

The Top Hopper mostly inhabit the rocky terrain around the mountainous regions of Knottington.  Their unique lanky legs are made of the same hardy wood as their horns, thus granting them the strength needed to traverse the treacherous slopes of Wheatmoor mountain. They are most often seen at sun rise, grazing from the wide variety of nutritious grass found throughout the plains. Top Hoppers are passive animals but a close encounter with a male hopper can result in some very unpleasant bruises. They are said to generate enough power with a single head butt to topple even the strongest building in Knottington …. But that might just be an over exaggeration.

Blacksea Odyssey's Final Kickstarter Day Twitch Stream

Final Note: Our fellow Florida game devs, Blacksea Odyssey, are Twitch Streaming all day today! Keith, our Technical Supervisor, will be joining them at 6pm today to talk some indie dev. Today is their last day on their successful Kickstarter campaign and they want to spend their final day with everyone talking game dev! Here's a link to their Twitch Stream. Check it out!

MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY HOLIDAYS from Steamroller Studios!

September Update

Twitch Team Stream Tuesday

It's that time again. Steamroller is live on Twitch at 2pm EST today! Showing more game development on Deadwood: The Forgotten Curse, as well as the usual discussions of nonsense and jibber jabber.

We are also announcing the final name for the Wriggle Rattle and the Niddler! Some great suggestions and feedback from all of you wonderful people. It was tricky for us to pick just one name! If you'd like to get involved with naming some creatures, then check out our forums!

OrlandoiX

Don't forget that OrlandoiX is coming up next month. Steamroller will be there on October 3rd and 4th with a playable demo. There will also be a lot of other great local developers showing off there stuff as well. Check it out and maybe we'll see you there!

Wizard World Comic Con

Also coming up next month (actually the very same weekend of Oct. 3rd and 4th) is Wizard World Comic Con in Ft. Lauderdale. Two of our artists will be representing Steamroller at the con.  There will also be a few other up and coming actors attending, such as Norman Reedus, William Shatner and Sean Astin. But we know you're really coming to see us!

Tacopocalyse

Like Tacos and seeing the world burn... then here's something that you might be interested in! Tacopocalyse is a street style game where you must delivery tasty tacos to customer that just really don't care the the world is coming to an end... they're just hungry. These great guys are also a fellow Florida indie dev team looking to get funded.

Battle Chasers

This is a personal favorite of our very own Game Director Adam Meyer. He grew up reading Battle Chasers and loved the art of Joe Madueira. So he's very excited about this game. If you like awesome art and old school JRPG's, then you'll dig it too!

August Update

NPC Concepts!

We've been very busy lately. And while we can't show you most of what we've been working on yet, we CAN share just a few of our NPC (Non Playable Character) concepts. This will give you a pretty good idea of the type of characters you'll see throughout the different regions of Knottington.

Twitch Team Stream Tuesday

It's that time again! This Tuesday 25th at 2pm EST, we'll be streaming live over the interwebs! As always, we have some lovely Deadwood Development to share with you. If you have any questions on anything... and I mean anything, please stop by and ask us live! Hope to see you guys there!

OrlandoiX

For those that are Florida locals, Steamroller Studios will be bringing Deadwood: The Forgotten Curse to its own booth at OrlandoiX October 3rd and 4th. If you're interested in seeing all the cool Indie Developers here in Florida, this is the place to be.

Name a Creature!

If you haven't checked out our forum pages yet you should definitely do so! Right now we are not only showing off new creature designs but also giving you the chance to name them. First up is the Niddler and the Wriggle Rattle. Those are the names we came up with. Think you can do better? Then check out the forum and prove it :)

Help out Corgi Warlock

Help out one of our close friends by voting "Yes" for Corgi Warlock on Steam Greenlight! This guy is a Pixar veteran and he's making this game all by himself. There's some really super, fantastic character designs and we want a plush of every single one of them. Not to mention there's an adorable looking Pug Character. Who doesn't like Pugs!? Nobody, that's who. Check it out, and if you find yourself wanting this game as much as we do, VOTE YES! :D

Till next time,
