                     Get ready because Knot and Thorn have joined the fray!!

     Knot is the biggest deadwood and also the strongest. He has the ability to charge through your barricade and then vomit acid that will do damage over time. Knot is a bipedal deadwood that walks around with a certain goofiness that makes him feel very clumsy and uncoordinated. He is very lazy like and lacks the interest in using his arms. He can take short sprinted strides but quickly feels sick afterwards and vomits acid.


     Thorn is probably the most vicious deadwood. One Thorn will spawn initially, and after a certain amount of time, it will call another Thorn in. All newly spawned Thorns will call another Thorn at the set amount of time, leading to exponential growth if they are not handled quickly. Thorns have a lobbed "grenade" style attack and keep at a distance for most of the time they are alive. When Thorns are at low health, they will begin to explode. If they are killed before they explode, they die harmlessly. If the timer ends and they still have health, they explode and inflict AOE damage around them. There is a chance for an Alpha Thorn to spawn after some Thorns have been in the arena already. The Alpha does not attack but coordinates the rest of the Thorns and when that happens, watch out!

Hey Woodlings!


We hope you all had a great holiday season and are doing your best to avoid the flu season. We wanted to take a few minutes to give you our annual beginning of the year "State of Deadwood" We have lots to talk about, so let's dig in!

Meet the new Deadwood Community Manager!

For a long time now we've been in dire need of a community manager. Nothing is as important to us as our community. However, self financing a game of this scope means that we usually have to hire more programmers or artists. Sadly this means that we've just plain dropped the ball when it comes to communicating with the Deadwood crowd. That's all changing now as we officially introduce you to our brand spanking new community manager.... Lee Gordon! He will be out there in the field, engaging with all of you. Sharing new info, answering questions, fielding complaints, the whole nine yards. We can't wait for you to get to know him, and also, for you to be able to see behind the scenes of Deadwood in a way we just haven't been able to do until now.

Famed Bioware Game Designer

A few months back, the amazing Mike Laidlaw Decided to move on from Bioware after 17 years. While this was sad news for fans of the many games he's worked on (Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Jade Empire) It turned out to be great news for Deadwood supporters. We're proud to say that we were the first team to work with him after his departure. Mike dug into Deadwood and gave us some AMAZING feedback. While his time with us was relatively short, his presence will be felt all the way till the end of production. Some of his designs and suggestions we will be sharing in the near future. We can't wait to work with him again as we are constantly pushing ourselves to make Deadwood the best game it can be!

Deadwood Team (slight) Move


 In an effort to increase creativity and productivity we thought it would be a good idea to stick all of us Deadwood developers in the same room. Up until now the Deadwood team has been spread throughout the entire Steamroller family. While it was fun to hob nob with the people on our team that work on the likes of Fortnite, Tomb Raider, and Dauntless. We've been having a blast in our new space. Plus we have the pinball machine in here.

New Format for Twitch


 One of the first things our community manager will be taking over is our weekly Twitch stream. In the past we've all just kind of taken turns streaming what we're working on. But with the new format, we'll be doing a more interview style and digging into the game a bit more. Translation, it should be MUCH more entertaining. We'll be launching our first stream in this format on February 13th from 3-4 pm EST. Don't forget to follow us on Twitter or Facebook so we can let you know when the stream starts. See you there!

Moving from Pre-Alpha to Alpha

We hope you all got a chance to play our Pre-Alpha we released last October. We've gotten some amazing feedback. Now we can finally say that we are officially moving from Pre-Alpha into Alpha. What does this mean? Basically we are entering the stage of the game were things start getting locked down. This means that we will have all the games features officially in the game. And it will just be a matter of polishing what we have and not throwing new ideas into the mix. Exciting times indeed!

February Contest


As a small way of giving back to our community we're throwing a little contest this month. Hopefully the first of many. This month to keep it simple, all you have to do to enter is visit this thread on our Deadwood Discourse page. While you're there, feel free to visit other threads and ask questions.

Pre-Alpha is out!

Great news! We're proud to announce that we are officially sending out steam codes for our pre-alpha build of Deadwood: The Forgotten Curse. YAY! 

Check your inboxes for an email from Backerkit. If you don't have one already, expect to see one pop in over the next 24 hours or so. If you have any issues, don't hesitate to reach out. 

Also, please remember that this is VERY much a PRE-alpha. This means that it's a bit rough around the edges. Expect issues with bugs, balance, temp art/sound, etc. Having said that, we're very excited to have our most faithful supporters get a spin behind the wheel of the game in it's current state. We'd love to hear any feedback you may have.  The best way for that to happen is by visiting this thread on our discuss forums.

Thanks so much for your support, we can't wait to share even more with you over the next few months.
